What is Bulkamid?
Bulkamid is a water-based gel used to restore the natural closing of the urethra. It supports the closing mechanism of the urethra and helps provide control of urine leakage when you cough, laugh, exercise, or change position.

Bulkamid gel is injected into the wall of the urethra in order to “bulk up” the tissue and prevent leaks. Similar to facial fillers, Bulkamid adds volume to the surrounding tissue and provides long-lasting results.
Bulkamid is a safe and effective outpatient treatment option for women experiencing stress urinary incontinence. It can be performed in your doctor’s office and takes about 20 minutes.
During the procedure, your doctor will give 3–4 injections of Bulkamid to help support the urethra and reduce urine leakage. Choosing Bulkamid does not exclude you from pursuing other treatment options in the future.
